BlogPost6: Post it Note

When reading Paulo Freire’s The Banking Concept of Education”, I noted several points of interest and had many questions remaining in my head. However, one thing has stuck in my mind throughout every other page of material. This is that of the major rules of the infamous "banking concept". Freire's lists these rules in Chapter 8 and follow as,

1.The teacher teaches and the students are taught

.
2. The teacher knows everything and the students know

nothing

3.The teacher thinks and the students are thought about

4. The teacher talks and the students listen

When analyzing this list, I could not feel anything but wrongdoing to student's who attend schools with this prioritization. #1, "The teacher teaches and the student are taught, this is correct in a lament term of what education is, but should not entail everything education is about. Being educated must require a basic understanding of who the teacher is and who his or her students are. It cannot just be seen as "teaching and taught". #2, The teacher knows everything and the students know nothing", this ideology is  the most ignorant of any. If an educator feels students have nothing to bring to class and have no potential to help the teacher grow as well, then students will ultimately suffer to the hands of ignorance. I do not have much to say about #3, however #4, "The teacher talks and the students listen" is interesting. This rule makes me to believe that student's voices cannot and should not be heard. This idea can leave student's feeling as if their ideas are not worth the class and teacher's time and keep them from voicing their opinions and beliefs in the future.
